  • June, 2016

    The North Texas Chess Academy (NTCA) is established in Carrollton by NM Christopher Toolin. It quickly becomes a center for learning and competition, with coaches fostering a love for chess among students of all ages.

  • 2017

    NTCA Hosts the first ever Dallas Summer Open and Dallas Winter Open, drawing Masters such as GM Elshan Moradiabadi.

  • 2019

    NTCA showcased its prominence in the DFW area by hosting a series of notable events. These included various tournaments that drew the participation of over twenty grandmasters, the renowned Pro Chess League, and a simultaneous exhibition with the former world championship candidate, GM Nigel Short.

  • November 2021

    David Gaston and Jarred Tetzlaff, both dedicated members of NTCA, decide to embark on a new journey. They leave NTCA with years of experience and lessons learned.

  • January 22, 2022

    Building upon the foundation established by NTCA, David Gaston and Jarred Tetzlaff found The Texas Chess Center (TCC). The center is created with a vision to become a thriving environment for chess enthusiasts, nurturing a culture of growth, camaraderie, and lifelong learning.   • Fall 2022

    In a pivotal moment, David and Jarred acquire the North Texas Chess Academy, their former workplace. This acquisition brings the company under shared ownership, with David Gaston, Jarred Tetzlaff, and NM Christopher Toolin at the helm. The merger amplifies the collective vision of the team, setting the Texas Chess Center on a trajectory for even greater success.

  • Spring 2023

    TCC Expands by opening a location in Irving, TX. The company employee count doubles as chess continues to expand.
